Grief in children will naturally depend on the age of both the parents and the children, as well as the nature of their relationship and the circumstances of the death. However, it tends to be more manageable if the children have previously experienced the loss of grandparents.

Regardless of the children's age, the loss of a parent often evokes feelings of loneliness, abandonment, insecurity, fear, aggression, and anxiety about losing the surviving parent (if applicable). Adult children may be more accepting of the death of elderly parents, recognizing it as part of life’s natural course.

Children also tend to be affected by the grieving behavior of the surviving parent. In cases where the parent is emotionally incapacitated, it is common for one of the children to assume a parental role in relation to their siblings, compensating for the absence.

At COINCIDIR, we support both minors and adults who have lost their parents, helping them navigate a grieving process that many experts consider the third most complex—following the loss of a partner or a child.
